Since version 1.9.8Locus allow “navigation” along route computed by MapQuest server (or any other)Here is short description, how to create and use voice files. get some voice – I found interesting site here, from where you can download really huge list of probably free voices for TomTom. convert voices to some usable format – so, look once more on previous link. There is description, how to use program VIFTOOL. For you are important these steps. download voice template and save it to some new HDD folder (e.g.

Ogg

You need to save these 3 voice related files: VIF, CHK and BMP file. download VIFTOOL.

install downloaded Vif Tool to the folder with the voice template. goto Start Run CMD.

in command window type “CD c:viftool”. in command window type “viftool.exe split dataXX.chk” to extract all OGG voice files from tomtom CHK file. you’ll get directory full of.ogg files. And now simply convert all these ogg files into one zip file (only files, not whole directory). so result now will be four files.

– dataXX.bmp (image (optional)). – dataXX.chk (original voices (not needed)). – dataXX.vif (description file (required)). – dataXX.zip (voices (required)).VIF and.ZIP (you can also.BMP) files, copy directly into Locus/data/navaudio directory.INFO: description of all voices is, together with some more info about this formatINFO: actual 'BETA' system allow to change voices, when you start navigation and tap on arrow symbol.

I posted the below earlier on another thread as a comment, but decided on second thought that I probably should have asked as a separate post. Apologies if anyone is reading this twice.Hi Everybody!I just bought a new TomTom Start 52. I can't figure out how to enable an audio warning when I get near red light cameras or to display them on the map while driving.I'm getting the sinking feeling that TomTom has disabled these features (almost like they want to make sure you have to pay them for TomTom's RLC alert service) but just thought I'd check. If disabling proximity alerts for POIs is a concious business decision TomTom made to increase revenue, maybe this post will give others a heads-up before they make the same mistake I did of buying a TomTom GPS.Thanks. Unfortunately I had no luck getting the audio proximity sounds to play for my custom POIs and this option was entirely missing from my TomTom settings.I looked into it some more online and it looks like TomTom, at least for my GPS and some other models, doesn't allow an audio alert feature for custom POIs.Thought I'd pass this info along in case anyone else planned on purchasing a TomTom hoping to enable POI audio alerts.

Probably best to only buy TomToms from stores with good return policies. Thanks again for the advice.Guess my next GPS will be a Garmin. Hi guys,Just wanted to give an update. I tried almostbob's ogg and wav suggestions without luck.

How to add voices to tomtom

It might be that the sound alerts feature was removed from recent Mydrive Connect versions. I was able to find an older Mydrive Connect version but the GPS has so many other issues (random crashes, freezing) that I'm just going to return it and get a Garmin instead. It's a shame, TomToms used to be highly configurable and I was happier with their old product (I dont think I'll ever understand, though, why TomToms only tell you the street name for turns right before the turn, but won't announce the street name in the penultimate notification before the turn comes up). Hopefully they get back on track with their product design. Thanks again almostbob, Tom, and dobs108 for the help!
