20140.jpgI've wanted an Antron 99 for some time now. Two main reasons are. Very clean looking aerial against the sky and I wanted to know how it stands up against my AR5/8 Aluminum antenna. A friend got me one from ebay for £63 free post. I had a look at it in my living room and it looked nice and clean and judging by the huge staples in the box, it had never been opened. A few days later I excitedly began to put the three sections together outside in natural light.Too my great disappointment there were big cracks in the base section! Now I'd been wanting an antron for a long time and once I'd got one I really wanted to try it out.
The seller's inability to deliver one in good condition wasn't going to dampen my enjoyment. (I'm not going to name the seller as I haven't given them a chance to replace the damaged section or even told him of it.) I hatched a plan that didn't involve waiting for emails paying return postage or getting in touch with Ebay. So yesterday morning I nipped around to the nearest plumber's supplier and bought a three meter length of poly pipe. 34 mm x 1.8 mm. I cut a length of it 130 cm (which gives it room to expand) and then cut the pipe length wise on one side. I slid the pipe on (it's quite a snug fit) and then tightened cable ties around the outside.
I put the antron/poly mod up yesterday and got all the stations I usually do and had a Spanish station call in on mid block to congratulate me on my strong signal! I've got enough poly pipe to do a proper uncut repair when I feel confident that I can take the chrome end off the bottom section and just slide the pipe over. So lets get this right.you bought an Antronyou bought one brand new and it arrived DAMAGED.!!you are quite happy to buy items, they turn up faulty/damaged and leave it at that??are you a Mug.!! No offence darren but you are a MUG.
I bought a new antron 99 from an ebay seller via a friend. I don't like getting ripped off by some one but I don't have the inclination to go to all the bother of getting satisfaction from a seller. I've got an antenna that works and won't be spending more than a few days in the air at any one time. If I choose to cut my losses and decide not to buy from someone and advise everyone else not do business with a certain ebay seller then that's my choice. But in all fairness I haven't given the seller chance to put it right YET.
Under normal circumstances I would have sent it back and then been brooding about it until I felt that justice was done. Justice seldom seems to get done these days and all the bad feeling isn't worth all the bother.
The base of my antron shouldn't have to be reinforced when I've paid good money for a new aerial. Fallout tactics save game editor. But sometimes it's worth while playing with what you have been given rather than brooding over what should have been.
I'd been looking forwards to running the A99 this weekend and the fact that it wasn't in A1 condition wasn't going to stop me. The seller will be emailed and whatever the outcome is I won't get wound up or lose any sleep over it. Life is too short.
